Historic Sale Showcases Exquisite Royal Mint Creations, Signed by the Legend Himself
In a landmark auction hosted by Stack’s Bowers Galleries on behalf of The Royal Mint, an exclusive collection of custom gold and silver coins honoring Beatles legend Paul McCartney sold for a staggering $753,600. These unique Presentation Edition coins, prepared in 5-kilogram formats, were produced with natural input from McCartney’s production company, MPL Communications, and the music icon himself.
When asked about the honor of being memorialized on such a coin, McCartney humbly stated, “This feels like a huge honor and not anything. I would have never expected it to happen.”
Auction Highlights: Record-Breaking Rarities
Only five coins were ever made in this special Presentation Edition—one in gold and four in silver—all of which were presented just in this Stack’s Bowers Galleries sale.
- The 5kg Gold Coin –This coin, a unique masterpiece, was one of the most valuable current British coins ever to be auctioned off, fetching $600,000. It took more than 250 hours to make, including three full days of detailed finishing. When McCartney hand-signed the coin on his 2024 Got Back Tour in Paris, France, it enhanced its uniqueness.
- The 5kg Silver Coins – Each of the four silver coins brought 38,400, far exceeding their 38,400, exceeding their 5,400 bullion value at the sale. These coins feature vibrant hand-enameling defining McCartney’s psychedelic “Magic Piano”, bringing the design to life in incredible detail.
These coins mark the first time Paul McCartney has ever been featured on a British coin and define the largest Proof coins in The Royal Mint’s Music Legends series.
A Philanthropic Touch
Paul McCartney and The Royal Mint will also give a part of the auction’s earnings to charitable organizations, providing this historic sale deeper meaning.

The two organizations keep trying to bring together the fields of music, numismatics, and charity with this latest victory, providing collectors with once-in-a-lifetime gems while contributing to meaningful causes.
