Introduced in 1986, the American Eagle Silver Uncirculated Coins have become iconic collector items, serving as the collector versions of the official United States Mint American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins. Struck at the U.S. Mint in West Point, these popular silver collectibles feature the classic Walking Liberty design by Adolph A. Weinman on the obverse, which has long been cherished by collectors. With advancements in design and minting technology, the 2021 version includes details from Weinman’s original work that were not present in earlier releases.
In 2021, a completely new reverse design was also unveiled. To enhance security, these coins now feature updated security features, including a unique reeded edge variation.
The obverse showcases a refreshed depiction of Liberty, portrayed in full stride and draped in folds of the flag. She extends her right hand, while holding branches of laurel and oak in her left. The United States Mint returned to historical assets to closely reflect Weinman’s original vision, incorporating his traditional artist mark. Inscriptions include “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “2023.”
The new reverse design presents an eagle approaching a landing while carrying an oak branch, symbolizing its addition to a nest. Inscriptions on the reverse read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR.”
Each coin bears the “W” mint mark, indicating it was struck at the U.S. Mint in West Point. To highlight the new reverse design, the coin comes encapsulated in an elegant black presentation box adorned with the United States Mint seal, complete with an outer sleeve featuring an image of the design. It is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity showcasing the refreshed obverse design.
