The United States Mint American Innovation $1 Coin Program is a multi-year initiative that honors innovation and innovators through $1 coins representing each State, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands. The Indiana coin is the third release for 2023, minted at the Philadelphia and Denver Mints and available in rolls and bags.
The reverse design of the Indiana American Innovation $1 Coin showcases a series of vehicles that highlight Indiana’s innovations from past to present. The design features an early gas automobile, a representation of classic car production, and a modern Indy-style race car. Inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “INDIANA.”
On the obverse, a dramatic profile of the Statue of Liberty is featured, along with the inscriptions “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “$1.” A privy mark of a stylized gear is included, symbolizing industry and innovation.
The year of minting, mint mark, and “E PLURIBUS UNUM” are incused along the edge of the coins.
