The United States Mint’s American Innovation $1 Coin Program is a multi-year series celebrating innovation and innovators from each State, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands. The Louisiana coin is the second release for 2023 and is available in rolls and bags, minted at the Philadelphia and Denver Mints.
Reverse Design:
The reverse (tails) side features a Higgins Boat, showcasing its innovative landing ramp deployed against a beach during World War II. Inscriptions include “UNITED STATES of AMERICA,” “THE HIGGINS BOAT,” and “LOUISIANA.”
Obverse Design:
The obverse (heads) side presents a striking profile of the Statue of Liberty, accompanied by the inscriptions “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “$1.” It also includes a stylized gear privy mark, symbolizing industry and innovation.
The edge of each coin is incused with the year of minting, mint mark, and the phrase “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
