The United States Mint American Innovation $1 Coin Program is a multi-year initiative that celebrates innovation and innovators by issuing $1 coins from each State, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands. The Missouri coin represents the fourth and final release of 2024, minted at the Philadelphia and Denver Mints.
The reverse (tail) design of the Missouri American Innovation $1 Coin features a depiction of George Washington Carver, gently smiling as he examines a sample of his work in his laboratory. Interwoven with scientific equipment are the leaves, blossoms, and fruits of a peanut plant. Inscriptions on this side include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “MISSOURI,” and “GEORGE WASHINGTON CARVER.”
The obverse (head) design showcases a striking profile of the Statue of Liberty, along with the inscriptions “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “$1.” It also incorporates a privy mark in the shape of a stylized gear, symbolizing industry and innovation.
The year of minting, mint mark, and “E PLURIBUS UNUM” are incused on the edge of the coins.
