The 2023 American Women Quarters Silver Proof Set™ includes all five quarters minted in 99.9% silver, carefully packaged in a protective lens to preserve their distinct proof finish.
This set marks the second annual release in a four-year series celebrating the accomplishments and contributions of women who have shaped our nation’s history and paved the way for future generations. From 2022 through 2025, the Mint will issue five new quarters each year, featuring reverse designs that honor prominent American women.
Each coin features a common obverse (heads) design showcasing a portrait of George Washington, originally composed and sculpted by Laura Gardin Fraser for the 1932 quarter commemorating Washington’s bicentennial. The inscriptions include “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “2023.”
The reverse (tails) designs honor a diverse array of notable American women who made significant contributions across various fields, including suffrage, civil rights, government, humanities, science, space, and the arts. These women come from ethnically, racially, and geographically diverse backgrounds.
The 2023 reverses honor the following American women:

Inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “QUARTER DOLLAR,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “BESSIE COLEMAN,” and “6.15.1921,” the date she received her pilot’s license.
- Edith Kanakaʻole: Featuring Kanakaʻole with her hair and lei poʻo transforming into a Hawaiian landscape, symbolizing her dedication to preserving traditional Hawaiian culture and natural land. The inscription “E hō mai ka ʻike” translates to “granting the wisdom,” referencing the integral role of hula and chants in this preservation. Additional inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “25¢,” and “EDITH KANAKAʻOLE.”
