Greatest Generation 2024 Proof Half Dollar

The coins in this program honor the National World War II Memorial and recognize the service and sacrifice of American soldiers and civilians during World War II. This memorial serves as a special site for commemorative and educational programs that pay tribute to America’s “Greatest Generation” and their efforts to preserve freedom for future generations.

On the obverse, the design reimagines the Victory Medal awarded to all who served in the Armed Forces during World War II. It features the figure of Liberation, standing with open arms and holding two halves of a broken sword, symbolizing the end of the war. The inscriptions include “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “WORLD WAR II,” “2024,” and “WE ANSWERED THE CALL.”

The reverse design presents the World War II Memorial from the perspective of someone walking up a ramp towards one of the towers. The inscriptions read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “HALF DOLLAR.”
