Grover Cleveland was a prominent American politician who uniquely served as both the 22nd and 24th President of the United States, holding office from 1885 to 1889 and again from 1893 to 1897. He remains the only President in U.S. history to serve nonconsecutive terms. Before his presidency, Cleveland gained recognition as the mayor of Buffalo and the governor of New York, where he earned a reputation as a fierce anti-corruption advocate. He was the first Democrat to be elected President after the Civil War and one of only two Democrats to occupy the office between 1869 and 1933. Remarkably, Cleveland won the popular vote in three presidential elections: 1884, 1888, and 1892, despite serving just two terms.
The obverse (front) of the medal features a detailed bust of Grover Cleveland, accompanied by the inscription “GROVER CLEVELAND.” The reverse (back) showcases an oak wreath, which encircles the inscriptions: “INAUGURATED PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES MARCH 4, 1885” and “SECOND TERM MARCH 4, 1893.”
