Reverend Dr. Pauli Murray: A celebrated poet, writer, activist, lawyer, and Episcopal priest, Murray is recognized as one of the most significant social justice advocates of the twentieth century.

Honorable Patsy Takemoto Mink: As a pioneering Member of Congress, Mink championed gender and racial equality, affordable childcare, and bilingual education. She is best known for her role in passing Title IX legislation, which prohibits sex discrimination in educational programs receiving federal funding. Title IX was later renamed the Patsy T. Mink Equal Opportunity in Education Act in her honor.

Dr. Mary Edwards Walker: A Civil War-era surgeon and advocate for women’s rights and dress reform, Walker made history as the first female U.S. Army surgeon. She is also the only woman to have received the Medal of Honor.

Celia Cruz: A Cuban-American singer and cultural icon, Cruz, known as the “Queen of Salsa,” was one of the most celebrated Latin artists of the 20th century. Her accolades include three American Grammy Awards, four Latin Grammy Awards, and the Presidential Medal of Arts.

Zitkala-Ša: Also known as Gertrude Simmons Bonnin, Zitkala-Ša was a writer, composer, educator, and activist for Native American rights. Her advocacy was instrumental in the passage of the Indian Citizenship Act of 1924, which granted U.S. citizenship to Native Americans while preserving their tribal identity.

One Native American $1 Coin: The obverse design features the iconic “Sacagawea” image, inscribed with “LIBERTY” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.” The reverse design honors the Indian Citizenship Act of 1924, showcasing an eagle staff alongside the American flag to symbolize the dual citizenship of Native Americans. Inscriptions include “United States of America,” “$1,” and “Indian Citizenship Act of 1924.”
