In December 1921, Treasury Secretary Andrew Mellon approved the design of the Peace Dollar, which replaced the Morgan Dollar and symbolized the peace between the U.S. and Germany. Crafted by the celebrated Italian American sculptor Anthony de Francisci (1887-1964), the Peace Dollar represented the nation’s emergence as an international power while honoring the sacrifices of its citizens during World War I, celebrating both victory and peace.
Reintroduced in 2021, the Peace Dollar boasts a stunning uncirculated finish. The obverse features a profile of Liberty adorned with a radiant crown, with inscriptions reading “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the year of issuance. The reverse showcases an eagle at rest, clutching an olive branch above the word “PEACE,” accompanied by additional inscriptions: “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “ONE DOLLAR.”
