This bronze medal represents the U.S. Coast Guard Silver Medal, part of the Armed Forces Silver Medal Series. It serves as a tribute to Coast Guard veterans and honors the contributions of our military.
Obverse Design:
The obverse (heads side) features a Coast Guard national security cutter at full throttle, racing toward the viewer. The inscriptions “U.S. COAST GUARD” and the motto “SEMPER PARATUS” (Always Ready) arch around the upper border. The hull number identifies the cutter Hamilton, named after Alexander Hamilton.
Reverse Design:
The reverse (tails side) showcases two iconic symbols of the Coast Guard: a life preserver ring and the Coast Guard racing stripe mark, which appears on nearly all Coast Guard vessels. The racing stripes use a heraldic hatching tradition to represent colors: horizontal lines for blue and vertical lines for red. At the center is the Coast Guard emblem, with the life preserver ring inscribed with the Coast Guard’s core values: “HONOR,” “RESPECT,” and “DEVOTION TO DUTY.”
