The first auction will have seven carefully curated collections, showing coins from different areas such as France, the Papal States, the Holy Roman Empire, and Transylvania.

This auction is highly expected by collectors because it has multiple rare and valuable coins, mainly from Transylvania.

Auction XVI: Collections de Vrais Amateurs

This auction is dedicated to seven different numismatic collections, meticulously cataloged to honor the life’s work of true enthusiasts.

These collections have ancient coins, coins from Brittany, Royal and Modern French coins, Marseille, Papal Piastres, Austrian Gold, and Transylvanian Coins. Estimations for these coins vary from the lower three-digit figures to five-figure sums, providing a diverse and attractive collection of opportunities for collectors at various levels.

Notable Lots to Look Out For

The Monsieur F. Collection of Ancient Coins

The auction starts with the Monsieur F. Collection, featuring coins from classical antiquity. With a focus on Sicilian cities like Syracuse and Leontinoi, as well as Carthage and the Roman Republic, the collection spans 176 lots. This section has a spectacular series of gold and electrum coins from Syracuse, with top-quality tetradrachms from Leontinoi.

The Monsieur L. Collection: Ancient Coins and Coins from Brittany

This smaller but elegant collection features 28 lots, consisting of ancient coins and coins from Brittany minted between 1442 and 1547. The highlight is an écu d’or by Louis XII, graded NGC MS65, assessed at 4,000 euros.

The Monsieur R. Collection of French Gold Coins

Monsieur R. was passionate about French gold coins, and his collection includes 159 lots, varying from the reign of Charles V to the 1980s. The collection has royal and imperial issues, with rarities like the Double Henri d’Or à la Gallia (1554) and the Double Piéfort with Louis XIV’s portrait (1644), calculated at 30,000 euros.

Coins from Marseilles: The Monsieur T. Collection

In this collection, seventy-eight lots of coins from Marseilles are contained, ranging from Merovingian deniers to small changes from the Second Empire. Many of these coins are offered in carefully assembled multiple lots, allowing collectors to get coins at favorable prices.

Papal Piastres and More: The Collection of a Coin Lover

The fifth collection focuses on Papal coinage, with impressive reverses and extensive multiple lots. Highlights have a Piastre of Urban VIII (1623-1644) estimated at 3,000 euros.

The Francis Collection: Coins of the Habsburg Empire

The Francis Collection has 150 lots featuring Habsburg Empire coins from Joseph II to Francis I, with some rarities dating back to Rudolph II. Key pieces have a 1599 gold medal of six ducats and an 1816 gold medal from Milan, estimated at 5,000 euros.

Transylvanian Treasures: The Beyond the Woods Collection

The final collection, titled Beyond the Woods, highlights Transylvanian coins. This collection is especially exciting for collectors, as it has extremely rare pieces such as a 1607 tenfold ducat by Sigismund Rákóczi and a 1629 double ducat by Gabriel Bethlen. These coins reflect the historical independence of Transylvania, caught between the great powers of East and West.
